Our paper examines the gap between how chart creators encode messages and how readers interpret them.

Our latest research on how people interpret charts has been accepted at CHI'25! The paper, "The Gulf of Interpretation: From Chart to Message and Back Again", explores the gap between how data journalists intend their charts to be understood and how diverse audiences actually interpret them.

Through workshops and interviews with readers from various backgrounds, we examined real-world data visualizations and analyzed differences in perceived and intended messages. Our findings highlight challenges in chart comprehension and offer design insights for more effective data communication.
